Bloodwood lumber, kiln-dried and rough sawn, sold by the board foot in Fort Myers, FL. Also called satine, this South American import hardwood has a bright, even red with a slightly cooler tone than padauk and a natural shine. At 2,900 lbf on the Janka scale it is the hardest wood on our lumber rack and a top accent choice.

Sold by the board foot

We sell bloodwood rough sawn in random widths and lengths, in 4/4 (1 inch nominal) thickness. Price is per board foot. Most bloodwood projects use small pieces, so a single 4/4 board often covers several cutting boards' worth of accent strips.

Price a stack of boards with the board-foot calculator, or plan a whole project in the material estimator, which adds a waste allowance for you.

Working with Bloodwood

  • Very hard and dense, so it dulls blades and can burn. Use sharp carbide, light passes and a steady feed.
  • Glues fine on fresh-milled surfaces but does not forgive gaps, so joints need to be accurate.
  • Finishes to a high gloss. The red dust tints light woods and pale epoxy, so vacuum between grits and seal before a pour. UV-inhibiting finishes slow darkening.
  • Durable and fairly stable. In Florida, acclimate it together with the softer woods in a glue-up so they move the same.

Popular uses

  • Cutting board accents
  • Inlay and banding
  • Pens and turnings
  • Knife and tool handles
  • Small boxes
