Plantation Teak

Plantation teak lumber, kiln-dried and rough sawn, sold by the board foot at our Fort Myers lumber yard. Golden to medium brown heartwood with natural oils makes teak one of the most stable and rot-resistant woods there is. Plantation-grown teak shows more color variation than old growth, and it remains a top choice for Southwest Florida outdoor and marine projects.

We sell plantation teak rough sawn in random widths and lengths, in 4/4 (1 inch nominal) and 8/4 (2 inch nominal) thicknesses. Price is per board foot. For outdoor builds, order enough to cut away the pale sapwood, which is not durable.

Working with Plantation Teak

• Cuts and planes nicely, but natural silica dulls steel quickly. Use carbide blades and bits.
• The oils can weaken glue joints. Wipe surfaces with acetone right before gluing and clamp soon after.
• Film finishes and epoxy struggle to bond to oily teak. Wipe with acetone, let it flash off, and seal or finish right away. Indoors, teak oil or hardwax oil is the easy route.
• Left outdoors unfinished it weathers to silver gray. The heartwood holds up in Fort Myers heat, rain and humidity better than almost anything.
